“Robyn, we need to talk.”
Immediately, Robyn remembered the words her parents had told her a month prior. Those words Robyn always dreaded hearing, following those words were always change. And she was right, after those words they told her they were moving in a month to another town and she would have to leave her friends, school, and the house she grew up in. Now she was standing in front of her new brick school, with unfamiliar, teachers, kids, and classrooms. Robyn only saw one person she recognized, her neighbor Celeste, who luckily was in the same class as her. After that (T), she saw her talking to a boy she had never talked to before. “His name is Sebastian, I think” Robyn said to herself. They looked deep in conversation, so Robyn didn’t go to talk to them. This is going to be a long day Robyn thought. After three hours , the bell dismissed Robyn from her classes, and she knew it was now lunchtime. She walked down the halls until she found the entrance of the cafeteria. Robyn pushed the cafeteria doors open and was greeted with the smell of foods like hamburgers and French fries. Robyn felt herself getting hungry just from the wafting smell of what she assumed would be good food. Robyn looked around and saw many groups of friends talking and eating together. She knew that since she transferred to this school in the seventh grade, there were going to be tight-knit friend groups but she did not realize how scary it would be to talk to them. Then (T), with her nerves failing her, Robyn decides to eat lunch alone at an empty table in the corner of the back of the cafeteria. “Hey!” Robyn was eating when suddenly she heard a voice. Standing over her was the girl she knew to be her outgoing neighbor, Celeste Williams. Standing next to Celeste was a shy-looking boy, whose name Robyn was not sure of. “Oh, his name is Sebastian,” Celeste said, noticing where Robyn’s gaze was. “Sebastian Butler.” “Hi Sebastian,” I said waving. “My name is Robyn.” “Hi Robyn,” he said, looking to the side. “Don’t mind him, he’s kind of shy,” Celeste said, waving her hand. “Oh!” Celeste exclaimed. “I just remembered why we came here. Do you want to eat lunch with us?” Robyn was taken aback. She didn’t that to be Celeste’s next sentence. “Oh, um, sure!” Celeste and Sebastian put their lunch trays on the table and sat down. Then, They started talking to her and all Robyn could do was answer their questions with ‘yes’ or ‘no’. She felt like she on cloud 9. She was so happy she made new friends, when it seemed impossible. For the rest of the day, Robyn could barely focus. She actually made friends! She was always sort of anti-social, so she never made the first move. But Celeste and Sebastian approached her first and later asked if she wanted to be friends with them! Robyn couldn’t believe it! She had actually made some friends at her new school! She felt like she’d finally be able to take on her new school with her friends by her side.
